Route overview

The Chiang Mai → Pai bus is the most popular overland trip in Northern Thailand. The 130 km journey climbs through the mountains on a road with 762 hairpin curves, taking about 3 hours.

Schedule & operators

Multiple VIP and standard coaches depart daily from Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Terminal (the new terminal in Fang Kaeo). The first bus leaves around 07:00 and the last around 17:30.

Price & booking

Tips

• Sit on the left side for the best valley views.
• Bring motion-sickness pills if you are prone to winding roads.
• Pai has no train station; bus is the only direct public option.
